Centre for Health Science

Based in Scotland’s Highland capital city, Inverness, the Centre for Health Science is a focus for excellence in healthcare and biotechnology research, education, training and business development, the first of its kind in the UK.

Located adjacent to Inverness’s Raigmore Hospital, this muli-million pound facility represents a major milestone in adding to the already significant cluster of health science activity in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland. The aim of the Centre is to instigate collaboration, knowledge transfer, improved clinical outcomes, publications and commercialisation.

As building development for the centre neared completion and was being prepared for launch, Peter Kane of Kane Communication was contracted to prepare branding and a marketing strategy to promote the centre and push it forward through future phases. Having worked with Plexus many times of over the years, Peter knew that we could be counted upon to develop a high quality web site for the centre within the tight schedule.

Representing the clinical sectors that it does, it was important that the the Centre for Health Science web site should be especially clean and cool, without being sterile, and a successful balance was struck. Additional functionality included interactive panoramas to let users explore the building online, and a password-protected extranet for the use of the administrator and the businesses located in the building.

The Centre for Health Science in Inverness has had a website using our WebStarter content management system since 2007. Following a rebranding exercise it was decided to take the opportunity to revamp the site.

The look and layout were designed by Guy Connel of Elastic Creative, whilst we had the task of building in the content management system and programming some of the fiddly bits.

These include fading slideshows, scrolling news boxes and lightbox functionality using jQuery as well as panoramic images carried over from the previous website.
