Plexus have been programming web sites of all kinds since 1995. As we've become busier over the years, and as our content management systems (CMS) have been developed, honed and polished for maximum ease-of-use, we've often been aware that for small business or community groups, or simply those with a life, getting a simple web site up and running can still often be a daunting, frustrating, confusing and costly process. But is doesn't have to be so.
Over the years, our content management systems have been adapted to provide myriad editing options and customisation for a wide range of professional clients. So, it struck us one day, why not take a subset of the most used CMS functionality, and build it into a web site system which lets Joe or Josephine Public set up a good looking and properly working web site with an online admin system that doesn't drive them to drink. Better than that, why not make it free for as long as they want to use it, and subsidise it with Google ads? That way, they get a good website, and we get a little advertising revenue. And, so, Spanglefish was born.
With a few Google ads, sufficient users numbers, and a paid upgrade available for those that wanted a little extra functionality (Spanglefish Gold – only £29.95 per annum), we thought Spanglefish would help those users without deep enough pockets for a full-blown bespoke web site, get them online, and do the business for them – quickly, easily and painlessly.
It did. 40,000+ of them. And growing.
Looks like we got something right ;} Make mine a Jam Doughnut.

15 June 2009 – Spanglefish FREE websites signup process gets an overhaul
Our Spanglefish FREE websites system has been a tremendous success. We’ve already had over 10,600 sign-ups. However, we did feel the main website where people signed up for their website was starting to feel a little dated.
So we’ve built a new version using our webstarter 5 content management system. We aimed to make the signup process as simple as possible. The website also highlights some great looking websites which have been built using Spanglefish and testimonials from our happy users.
So if you need a free website to give you a web presence straight away, why haven’t you signed up for a free spanglefish website already?
